I was just pointed to an atheist social networking site, Atheist Nexus. You can see my page here.

Buncha links for Sam

I mentioned these to Sam on the road last night (where he tried to kill us both), but I may as well post them for anyone interested.

Comfest 2008 + Scientology

So. I will be going to the community festival in Columbus. That is in Goodale park, in the Short North. I was there last year, and Scientology had a tent. Apparently they did so in 2006 as well.

Last year I even took their "personality test." Apparently a powered ohm meter with some extra big electrodes will test the stress levels of my brain, even though due to the skin effect of electricity it will simply pass across my chest from one electrode to the other. (Nowhere near my brain.)

New Study. Americans too ignorant to take survey.

I got this from the San Francisco Chronicle.

Basically, a survey of 36,000 people shows they believe in absolutely everything. 21% of people identifying as "atheist" believe in God. Apparently its very easy for most Americans to have their beliefs contradict. Way to go.

But then, to all the readers of this blog, I'm sure you've had arguments about belief. Think of the number of people who can present a logical theological argument.

Short list eh?

Old News

Even though it is pretty old news(2006) there are 3 signatories of the CFI "Declaration in Defense of Science and Secularism" who are part of Case Western Reserve University. They are:

-Lawrence Krauss, PhD—Prof. of Physics and Astronomy
-James W. Jordan, MD, playwright and neurology resident
and our very own
-Mano Singham, PhD, Physicist & Director, Univ. Ctr. for Innovation in Teaching and Education (UCITE)

I just thought that was worth pointing out to anyone not in the loop(like me).

Psychic Children

I don't if anyone else has seen this, but there is a new series on A&E called Psychic Children, and it is pretty stereotypical of all psychic believer shows. A good dose of untestable claims(ie. I hear voices), anecdotal evidence and science bashing. Well, they call us "mainstream science," but I am going to assume that we are all in agreement here that there is only one type of science and the rest is pseudoscience. I'll get a link and a rant soon but for now I just wanted to share this little tidbit before I went to bed and forgot.

Worth a look

I love the way religious people use fear as their number one weapon on the front line of recruitment.

Read the article: Bourgeois Sentimentality.

This article leads up to a fantastic crescendo of the catastrophye a Godless world would bring.

Exploring the neurochemistry of fairness

Here's some fuel for the fire next time a religious apologist claims that atheists have no basis for morality.

Atheists and Agnostics: You are not alone.

Personal Agenda's Cloud Sagacity:

For the past week Australia has been divided in to two camps.
The brouhaha began when internationally renowned photographer Bill Henson hung a public exhibition of his works, which contained several photographs of a naked thirteen-year-old girl.
Allegedly the girl in question and her parents gave consent.

The invitation cards to the exhibition, which were mailed out by the gallery, had one of the photos of the naked child on the front as a promotion to the event.
